The mid-1970s copy of this monument commemorates the heroic 1410 Battle of Grunwald, in which a joint force consisting of Poles and Lithuanians triumphed over the Teutonic Knights. The original monument, constructed in 1910, was unfortunately destroyed during WWII by the Nazis.
