The memorial of Tadeusz Kościuszko, an esteemed Polish and American military hero who lived between 1746-1817, is located in Zwierzyniec, 3km west of the Old Town. Built between 1820-1823, it stands at a towering 34m high, and includes soil from both the Polish and American battlefields where Kościuszko fought. Admission grants visitors the opportunity to hike up the mound and tour the adjacent 19th-century fort, with exhibitions on Kościuszko's life. The views of the city from the top are spectacular.
