Description

The late Polish film director Andrzej Wajda used the Kyoto Prize money he received in 1987 to fund the National Museum's permanent home for its expansive collection of Japanese art, ceramics, and scrolls. Most of the collection was put together by Feliks Jasieński (1861–1929), an enthusiastic explorer and essayist, fondly called "Manggha".
