Originally established in 1949, Nowa Huta's sprawling square and tram stop serves as the centerpoint of the workers' housing estate. Resembling a grand, communist-era building project, the square was once crowned with a statue of Russian communist leader Vladimir Lenin. However, in 2004, officials decided to rename the square in honor of former US president Ronald Reagan, likely leaving Lenin to roll in his tomb.
